Spencer Yard Phase 2 redevelopment: building on the success of the cultural quarter

Exciting developments are planned in Leamington Spa's burgeoning cultural quarter.

This major project will build on the success of an earlier scheme to refurbish Spencer Yard and provide workspaces for creative organisations.  All units in the first phase of development are now fully let to thriving visual and performing arts companies. Visit the Spencer Yard website for more details.

As part of the next phase of development, Advantage West Midlands is providing £4.9m to enable the former United Reformed Church on Spencer Street, now deconsecrated and disused, to be refurbished as a state of the art theatre and performing arts space. This will create a new home for the long-established Loft Theatre, and a major new performance venue for the area. Work on the site is expected to begin in April 2010.

The demolition of the current 1960s Loft Theatre on the south bank of the River Leam will allow for the creation of a prestigious new riverside building to provide a business incubation centre, restaurant and office and studio units. Details of plans and elevations may be viewed on the Warwick District Council Website planning portal. Planning consent for the development of the site by a private developer was achieved in October 2009.
